Oh well!

Let's begin...Amusement parks around the country spend a lot of money on signs, fences, locks, etc. to keep people (many of them dumb) from accessing dangerous areas. Well, one rocket scientist from South Carolina (17 year old Asia Leeshawn Ferguson IV) decided to ignore MULTIPLE signs, locked gates, and TWO fences to retrieve a baseball cap that fell off while he was on the Batman ride. Why doesn't NASA move to Columbia, SC? They already have a space shuttle named after the city. I don't know if he was successful in getting his coveted cap back, but I do know that he wandered into the path of the ride and was decapitated for his effort. That's using your head!

Charles Darwin was correct when he coined the phrase "survival of the fittest" and this is one more piece of evidence pointing towards natural selection. A police spokeman said that an autopsy will be performed. Huh? I'm not a doctor, and I don't play one on TV. BUT, I do remember hearing something about not being able to live WITHOUT A HEAD!
I'm not a fan of roller coasters. If I were, I'd be sure to not wear a baseball cap while riding one. I'm afraid that my cap will fall off my head when I roll the windows down in my car!
How long will it take for the family of poor Asia Leeshawn Ferguson IV to file a multi-million dollar negligence lawsuit on his behalf? How could Six Flags be so irresponsible to only post signs reading "Restricted Area - Authorized Personeel Only" and "Danger Zone - Do Not Enter", or by only having two sets of fences keeping people out of the area, or by securing gates with locks?
In preparation for the first series between the Sox and Rays since the fight, let's look at D.O. and The Rem Dawg re-enacting the brawl...

This pisses me off...

I don't know why, but this just rubs me the wrong way. Actually, I do. This is a Yankees prospect! You may have seen this video on ESPN or on Barstool Sports. It is a minor league game between the Staten Island Yankees and the Brooklyn Cyclones. The pitcher is ambidextrous. Great, fine...good for you! This kid thinks he's a hot shit because he can pitch with both arms. What this little prick didn't think of is what would happen if he faced a switch-hitter. I remember when Greg Harris pitched for the Red Sox and Bobby Brown (the AL President NOT Whitney's ex) told him that he couldn't change arms in the middle of an at bat.

Those rules don't apply to this little fuck. He went crying to the umpire when the batter kept switching which side of the plate he'd bat from. I don't care that there were 2 outs in the 9th inning and the umpire wanted to end the game. It's the principle that matters. The NCAA has a rule that states, "If a pitcher changes pitching hands during a batter's time at bat, the umpire shall; 1) Call a balk if a runner(s) is on base, 2) Call a ball for an illegal pitch if a runner(s) is not on base, 3) Warn the pitcher, or 4) Eject the pitcher if the offense is repeated.

Even though MLB told Harris that he could not switch hands between pitches, there is no explicit rule in the MLB rule book. Rule 6.06 (b) notes that a batter cannot switch batters boxes when a pitcher is ready to pitch, but nothing prevents a batter from switching sides in between pitches. I believe the same holds true for a pitcher, but as this has never come up before. My understanding is that as long as the pitcher steps off the rubber and does not commit a balk, he can do whatever he wants in terms of throwing arms. But the same holds true for batters!

Let's see what ruling comes out of this.

On a lighter side, today was Jerry Remy Day at Fenway. Jerry mentioned that his most memorable moment was this...

FROM WORST TO FIRST

Smile, Red! Your team did it again. They are World Champions for the 17th time in franchise history. What a night! Ray, Rondo, Pierce, KG all came up huge tonight and kicked the LA Fakers ass. Kobe and Coach Jackson, have a nice flight back to LA LA Land. After 22 long years, the Celts are back on top. What a game! 131 points is the most this team has scored all season. Truth be told...I was rooting them to win by 40+.

Now Pierce (THE REAL MVP), Ray, KG, Rondo, Perk, House, Posey, PJ, Sam, Scal, Powe, Big Baby, Tony, Doc, and everyone else can say that they brought back the Larry O'Brien Trophy back to Boston!
The Celtics played like champions and took the game from the Fakers AND the referees. Take that Stern!

It's Gino time! That's all I can say for now! Good night...

Actually, one more thing. What is KG doing? All I know is that the leprechaun is giving us a wink! It doesn't matter, he's OUR fuckin' champion!

Let's re-live Thursday night

First...Happy Father's Day to all fathers and grandfathers!

Tonight the Celtics will hopefully clinch the NBA Championship and bring "Banner 17" back to Boston. Before that, let's take another look at the best comeback in the NBA Finals history with INSIDER footage from the NBA.

Screw you Stern!

I need to revise this entry and add this note as I'm reading Barstool Sports. Yes, this blog was written after Barstool Sports posted this video, but I didn't see that they had posted it before I wrote this blog. I love Barstool Sports. If you couldn't tell by now, Barstool Sports and The Sports Guy are inspirations for this blog.

I don't know who the referees will be for tonight's game. If one of them is Dick Bavetta, watch out.

I hate Stern!

A legend lost...

Yesterday, the worlds of journalism and politics lost someone special. Tim Russert died suddenly after suffering from a heart attack while taping NBC's "Meet the Press". For political junkies or citizens simply concerned about our government, the network Sunday morning talk-shows (NBC's Meet the Press, CBS' Face the Nation, and ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos) are must sees.
Tim Russert's unique ability to ask difficult questions to those on both sides of the aisle made Meet the Press the most watched Sunday morning show. For me, a Sunday morning isn't the same without hearing the familiar classic theme of Meet the Press (TV's longest running show) and Russert's (Meet the Press' longest serving host) baritone voice grilling his guests.

If it's Sunday morning, it will still be Meet the Press but it won't be the same without Russert and neither will election nights without his whiteboard.

When I'm wrong, I need to admit it. I told you that I thought Pau Gasol looks like a chicken. However, after listening to Mikey Adams on WEEI, I agree that he looks more like a llama. I'm sorry for leading you astray. Look...

Until next time, I guess Vujacic was literally raggin' it at the end of Game 4...

Finally, how could I have forgotten to mention this the other night! Enjoy...

HISTORY MADE...

First off, screw you Stern! The Celtics outscored the Lakers 57-33 in the second half and secured THE GREATEST COMEBACK in NBA Finals history in the shot-clock era AND I MISSED 3 1/2 QUARTERS (WORK SUCKS)! Led by the captain, "The Truth", Paul Pierce, our boys in green showed the wills of champions and never gave up after a trailing by 24 points. The Celts ended the Lakers unbeaten streak at home during the playoffs (9-0) and handed them their first lost at home since March 28th (15 wins). DJ, Reggie, Johnny, and Red are celebrating hard tonight!
Pierce asked Doc to guard Kobe in the second half because he didn't have any fouls and was taller than Ray. As a result, Kobe was not able to post up Pierce and was subjected to taking jump shots. Kobe struggled shooting 6-19 from the field with 19 pts (3 pts in the first half) in Game 4. The MVP of the NBA has only had one good game this series. Do you hear that Commish? Your MVP is down 3-1 in a best of 7 series. Maybe Kobe can't win without Shaq!
I know that you'll pull out all the stops for the next game. Maybe you'll assign Steve Javy to the game again. Come on Stern! Javy must either be blind or on the take. For your sake, with the Donaghy controversy still looming over your league, you better find an eye doctor that will say he's blind or someone may say that there is proof of a ref fixing games. Players were getting mugged right in front of him and he didn't call anything!

What about Garnett taking it to the hole against The Chicken, Pau Gasol. Look at him, he looks like a fuckin' chicken ready running around waiting to get plucked!
Remember the link that I sent out before the series where 9-10 ESPN "experts" picked the Lakers? Where are they now? You know what...Screw them too! The Celtics and Lakers have played 6 times this year and the Celtics are 5-1. It would be nice to win a 4th game at home, but I would love to see the Celts close it out Sunday night on the Lakers home court! Wouldn't that be sweet!
Oh, one other thing...Coach Jackson, I watched your post game press conference tonight. The name is Leon POWE not POW! POWE as in PO! Get it right, jackass!
Until next time...

Get a box of tissues (really)

Over the past two weeks, ESPN has reported on two stories that everyone, EVERYONE should watch. These are stories about life and coping with adversity. Yes, sports has a role in each story but it is not the focus.

Please take the time to watch these inspiring videos and don't blame me if your "allergies" make your eyes water while watching them...

Two Down....Two to Go!

To steal a reaction from a former WEEI night time talk show host, Ted Sarandis, "WOW!". The Celtics hung on last night, despite blowing a 24 point lead. Players, coaches, talk show hosts, and callers are all saying that they will learn from this and move forward. Well, didn't they say that during the series with Pistons, Cavaliers, and Hawks after they either blew a 4th Quarter lead or barley hung on after allowing the other team to comeback? This team lacks a killer instinct. I guess that it is natural to relax after creating separation and earning a 24 point lead. BUT, what about when the lead is cut to 13 in 2 minutes or when it gets down to single digits? At that point, you've lost momentum and are at the mercy of the other team. The Lakers were one Sasha Vujacic 3-pointer from blowing the lead.

Another thing that gets me is that Kendrick Perkins can't stop from getting into foul trouble. Come on Perk! Get your head into the game! We need you out there! Actually, hold the phone....both PJ Brown and "Single Zero" Leon Powe have been outplaying you this series. Powe came up huge last night. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought that Commissioner Stern had something to do with it, given the fact that ABC/ESPN had a nice piece about Powe's life and path to the NBA at halftime. Remember, while in college he led the Pac-10 in scoring and rebounding. This kid's got talent! They pronounce his name like "POW!" because he brings the hammer when he's in the game.

My favorite play of the game was Rondo (6 feet 1 inch) blocking a Radmonovic (6 feet 10 inches) 3-point attempt.

Speaking of ABC, can they be any more biased? Here are some notes that I took; after getting called for a quick second foul Jeff Van Gundy talked about his theory of letting the players play and getting rid of the rule where players foul out after 6 fouls, Breen calling for "obvious" fouls on Kobe and "not getting treated like an MVP", after Rondo stole the ball from Gasol Breen said, "Rondo CRASHES into Gasol. How is that not a foul? It looked like a foul to me." Come on guys, you have to be a little more subtle than that!

Phil Jackson reminded the media that Powe had more free-throws than his whole team in only 14 minutes of play. Coach Guru, that is correct. Do you want to know why? Well, it's because he was aggressive and actually played last night, unlike your superstar, Kobe. Don't worry, Coach. You're team will get more than your FAIR share of calls tomorrow night. I'm sure that Stern has summoned Bennett Salvatore to Game 3 (Full disclosure: The Sports Guy also made reference to Bennett in his column today. When I read it, I thought "Damn! I wanted to mention him first".)

Bob Delaney was one of the referees last night, along with Kenny Mauer. I don't know what Stern was thinking because Delaney's officiating offsets Mauer's bias against the Celts. Speaking of Bob Delaney, I don't think that he wandered over to the North End to enjoy a meal while he was in town. Why? Bob Delaney used to be a NJ State Trooper. While working in law enforcement, Delaney worked undercover as Bob Covert (Yes, that was his actual alias) building cases against numerous NJ crime families. Don't believe me? Read this: http://www.northjersey.com/news/crimeandcourts/Covert_is_story_of_1970s_probe.html.

Now it's onto Game 3 tomorrow night. I hope the ghosts of Johnny Most and Red Auerbach hopped on the charter flight to LA!

Onto other topics...The Pats completed their 3 day mini-camp this weekend. According to what I've read; Brady's ankle is fine, Jerod Mayo (#51) was impressive, Marcus Pollard has been impressive, 2nd rounder Terrence Wheatley (CB) struggled a bit, and Fernando Bryant was impressive and could become Asante Samuel's replacement at corner.

The 2008 Bayou Bowl was this past weekend. It will be aired on the NFL Network this weekend. The bowl, created in 2003, pits all-star football players from Texas and Louisiana against each other. Texas won, 24-14, and the series is now at 3-3. This game is just as good as the Georgia-Florida All-Star game.

Finally, have you seen Erin Hawksworth? She is a reporter on Fox 25. Here are some pics.

A non-sports post (sort of)

As some of you know, I like to watch documentaries. But, I like independent documentaries about "odd" topics. For instance, I've received a lot of crap at work for watching "Helvetica" http://www.helveticafilm.com/. This is a documentary about the world of fonts. Yes, fonts. 2007 was the 50th anniversary of the creation of Helvetica. Arial, the font I use for this blog, is a clone of helvetica. It was interesting to view a part of society that a lot of us take for granted. You'll learn the difference between serif and sans serif fonts. It was a good movie! Here's the trailer from the Independent Film Channel (IFC).

Next was "Two Days in April", a film that followed four players during their preparation for the NFL Draft. http://www.twodaysinapril.com/ The documentary showed the players training for the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL, the NFL Combine, their Pro Days back at school, their training at their agents' sports academy in Florida, and was with all of them during the draft itself. You can view the trailer by going to the link above. Me, being a football junkie, found the "behind the scenes" movie very interesting.

Frequent readers know that I recently watched "10 MPH", a movie documenting a trip from Seattle to Boston on a Segway. http://www.10mph.com/ This was another interesting movie for a few reasons. Because they could not use the interstate highway system (the Segway can only go 10 mph), the group travelled the backroads across the country. By only going 10 mph, they were able to take in the beauty of the Rockies, the Badlands, and the farms of Kansas and Missouri. With the exception of the rural Illinois cop, everyone they met along they was helpful to them. They needed it as their "moneyman", who promised to finance the movie, officially backed out halfway through the trip after a myriad of excuses why the money wasn't available.

The most recent documentary I've watched is "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters". http://www.billyvssteve.com/ Wow! There is a whole group of people in our society stuck in the 80s. Actually, they are stuck in 80s arcades. In my opinion, this is a documentary depicting Good (Steve Wiebe) vs. Evil (Billy Mitchell). I really hate Billy Mitchell. Before I saw this movie, I had no idea who he was! But, the person who really needs to get a life is Brian Kuh, one of Billy's fans. One memorable line in this movie from a "classic gamer" is, "I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do drugs...I play video games!". Guy, you forgot the "I don't do girls!" part. Seriously, this is a great movie! They use "Eye of the Tiger" and "You're the Best Around"! Any movie with these two songs is a great movie. When watching the the trailer, remember that this was filmed in 2005 & 2006 NOT 1982.

Go to YouTube for more clips, then rent this film. You'll thank me for it. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=king+of+kong&search_type=&aq=-1&oq=

Wow! A lot to catch up on...

A lot has happened over the last few days, so let's catch up...The Celtics took Game 1 of the NBA Finals, 98-88. They lead the series 1-0 over the Lakers with Game 2 tomorrow night. We all know that Paul Pierce left the game with a knee injury, thanks to Kendrick Perkins. People, including Lakers coach Phil Jackson, are giving him crap insinuating that it was an act. First, we don't know how serious the injury is as Pierce is forgoing more tests until after the series.

Secondly, look at the expression on his face. He was genuinely in pain. He was probably just reacting to the moment, thinking that his first trip to the Finals could be over in Game 1. I'm not saying that Pierce coming back from the locker room was the same Willis Reed or Larry Bird, but it did uplift the team and crowd. Everyone should just get over it!

Back to the game...PJ Brown came up HUGE!!! If he plays that way for the rest of the series, and if the Celts can hold Kobe to quiet games, we are looking at the 17th banner for the rafters. It is early, though. With Games 3-5 in LA, anything can happen, even if the Celts take a 2-0 lead.

The Pats are in the middle of their 3 day mini-camp. I'm sure that Coach Belichick is happy with his 18-1 Pats being off the radar with the Celtics and Red Sox success. Training Camp is only one month away and then we'll have to hear all about spy-gate and the Super Bowl. Yeah! I can't wait for that! One interesting note from mini-camp is that Tank Williams, a free agent safety signed this offseason, is taking reps at linebacker with what seems to be the base defense. Today, he had a nice play when he covered Kevin Faulk on a wheel route near the goal line and intercepted Brady's pass. Good for the D! Bad for Brady!

We'll have to wait for another year to see who will be the next Triple Crown winner. Big Brown's jockey, Kent Desormeaux, eased him up at the top of the stretch of the 140th Belmont Stakes because he felt that "something was wrong" and the horse didn't have what was needed to win. According to Desormeaux, "I had no horse." It is interesting that Big Brown did not receive an injection of winstrol (steroid) this month, as he did before both the Kentucky Derby and The Preakness. The next few days will tell us if the thoroughbread has another injury. Personally, when I found out that he was running our of the 1 spot, I knew that he wasn't going to win. I didn't know that this would happen. I simply thought that he would get boxed out at the start and not be able to catch up to be a factor. For those who bet on 38-1 Da' Tara, the winner paid $79 on a $2 Win bet.

The "wide" world of sports lost a legend today when Jim McKay passed away of natural causes at the age of 86. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=3430672 Like many of us, my most vivid memories of Jim McKay are as the voice of ABC's Wide World of Sports and for the many Olympic Games that he covered during his career. Unfortunately, part of that experience was to cover the 1972 Munich Olympic Games when the PLO killed the Israeli athletes.

Finally, what is this world coming to? That is all I have to say about this story. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1024512/Guilty-Mother-locked-year-old-son-flooded-kitchen-weekend-partying.html

Until next time...enjoy this.

It's no surprise, is it?

So, 9 out of the 10 ESPN "experts" are picking the Lakers. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2008/series?series=lalbos Yes, the Lakers have played better in the playoffs. But, these teams were the tops in their conferences during the regular season. The Lakers lack the size to matchup against KG & Perk. The Lakers do have Commissioner Stern on their side. They also have one jackass of a coach in Phil Jackson. Here is the latest picture of the LA Guru...

I'm not going to make any predictions, but I'll provide commentary throughout the series. I am rooting for the Celtics. I'd be fine with a four game sweep, but I know that isn't going to happen.

Speaking of gurus, it looks like Coach B is doing pretty well for himself. Maybe he was a little jealous of his star QB gettin' some. Kudos, Bill! I'm sure that you've already developed a blitz scheme to cover the package and a 2 DD Deep Defense, being the consummate football professional and all...Foxborough PD better stock up on their cougar darts, because it appears that one will be in the greater Foxborough/Wrenthem/Norlfolk area this summer. I'm sure they know that this type of cougar could be found lounging by a pool during the day, as its prey works. They are also known to quench their thirst with Pina Coladas or Frozen Margaritas...

Finally, I wanted to let you know about a documentary I watched last night. It was about two guys and a few friends who drove a Segway from Seattle to Boston in 2004. The name of the movie is "10 MPH" (http://www.10mph.com/). I encourage you to rent or download the movie, at least go to the website and follow the directions to register, they get a buck from their distribution company for it! It was pretty interesting to see how they were treated along the way. Even though one of their partners (the moneyman) backed out during the trip, they managed to get by on the generosity of people along the way. They picked up sponsorships from Chipotle Mexican Grill and Izze. So, they had plenty to drink and were able to get a free meal when they found a Chipotle. Their next documentary, 10 Yards, is due out this summer. It is a documentary about Fantasy Football.

Although most people were nice to them, checkout this clip when they are pulled over by a royal jackass wearing an Overland Park, IL police uniform. This guy was such a obstinate prick! This guy really rubs me the wrong way! If it weren't for Sgt. Solari, the cop's Patrol Supervisor, I'm sure he would have written these kids a bunch of tickets. Roll the tape..
