Secondly, look at the expression on his face. He was genuinely in pain. He was probably just reacting to the moment, thinking that his first trip to the Finals could be over in Game 1. I'm not saying that Pierce coming back from the locker room was the same Willis Reed or Larry Bird, but it did uplift the team and crowd. Everyone should just get over it!
Back to the game...PJ Brown came up HUGE!!! If he plays that way for the rest of the series, and if the Celts can hold Kobe to quiet games, we are looking at the 17th banner for the rafters. It is early, though. With Games 3-5 in LA, anything can happen, even if the Celts take a 2-0 lead.
The Pats are in the middle of their 3 day mini-camp. I'm sure that Coach Belichick is happy with his 18-1 Pats being off the radar with the Celtics and Red Sox success. Training Camp is only one month away and then we'll have to hear all about spy-gate and the Super Bowl. Yeah! I can't wait for that! One interesting note from mini-camp is that Tank Williams, a free agent safety signed this offseason, is taking reps at linebacker with what seems to be the base defense. Today, he had a nice play when he covered Kevin Faulk on a wheel route near the goal line and intercepted Brady's pass. Good for the D! Bad for Brady!
We'll have to wait for another year to see who will be the next Triple Crown winner. Big Brown's jockey, Kent Desormeaux, eased him up at the top of the stretch of the 140th Belmont Stakes because he felt that "something was wrong" and the horse didn't have what was needed to win. According to Desormeaux, "I had no horse." It is interesting that Big Brown did not receive an injection of winstrol (steroid) this month, as he did before both the Kentucky Derby and The Preakness. The next few days will tell us if the thoroughbread has another injury. Personally, when I found out that he was running our of the 1 spot, I knew that he wasn't going to win. I didn't know that this would happen. I simply thought that he would get boxed out at the start and not be able to catch up to be a factor. For those who bet on 38-1 Da' Tara, the winner paid $79 on a $2 Win bet.
The "wide" world of sports lost a legend today when Jim McKay passed away of natural causes at the age of 86. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=3430672 Like many of us, my most vivid memories of Jim McKay are as the voice of ABC's Wide World of Sports and for the many Olympic Games that he covered during his career. Unfortunately, part of that experience was to cover the 1972 Munich Olympic Games when the PLO killed the Israeli athletes.
Finally, what is this world coming to? That is all I have to say about this story. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1024512/Guilty-Mother-locked-year-old-son-flooded-kitchen-weekend-partying.html
Until next time...enjoy this.
