The Chop Shop

Hello again. I'm happy that my 90210 entry will no longer be the lead on the blog. This entry is titled "The Chop Shop" as it contains comments on a number of varied topics I've read about recently. I have to give credit to Mike Finnerty (maybe Catholic Memorial's ONLY decent alum) for coming up with this name. I'd like to stress MAYBE.

An Oregon woman has lost $400,000 after being scammed via email. She received an email informing her long lost grandfather left money behind for her in Nigeria. She was promised to be paid over $26 million if she signed "legal documents" and paid the transaction fees ($400K). She mortgaged her house that was paid off, took a lien on her car that was paid off, and cashed out her husband's retirement plan.

OK. This lady is an absolute idiot. She deserves to lose out for being so stupid. Come on! "Just pay us 400 large and we'll give you $26 million. I promise...'pinky promise'." This lady lives in Oregon and looks like the type whose family has been in Oregon (at least the Pacific Northwest) for generations. She appears to be white/causasian. She receives an email from Nigerian telling her that her long lost grandfather left her money - AND NO WARNING SIGNS GO OFF? Did she read the document? "The transaction you have with the Central Bank of Nigeria or any bank within Nigeria is noting but legal." NOTING. What is noting? Whatever! Enough about this inbred.

The moonbats in Vermont are at it again. School officials in Woodbury, VT (pop. 800) have ordered students wanting to recite the Pledge of Allegiance out of their classrooms and into the school's gym. Officals say they don't want to force those students not participating in the pledge to hear the pledge. Students have recited the Pledge in classrooms since the 1800s. The Pledge was officially recognized by Congress in 1942. A 1943 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that schoolchildren could not be forced to recite the Pledge as part of their daily school routine. Since that time, students could simply not participate as the Pledge was being recited in the classroom.

OK. I understand that atheists and agnostics have reasons to to not recite the Pledge since "under God" was added in 1954. I get it! But, 92% of Americans believe in a "god" and 89% support keeping "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. This should be a non-issue. Students should be able to stand up and say the pledge in their classroom. Why should they be ostracized for wanting to reciting a a pledge that has been ruled to be constitutional? They are simply expressing their patriotism and love for the best country in the world!
FYI...I learned this fact: The Pledge of Allegiance was first published on September 8, 1892 by the Boston magazine, The Youth's Companion. The original text was "I pledge allegiance to my flag and the Republic for which it stands - One nation indivisible - with liberty and justice for all."

Speaking of patriotism, have you seen the Lewiston, Maine man who lost 140 lbs. to join the Marines? Now that's a Patriot. There's not much more to say about this topic. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,453631,00.html

I can't wait for Sunday night! 24: Redemption airs on Fox and will act as a bridge between the 6th and 7th seasons. I hope the movie doesn't use the same "real-time" tactic the series uses. Otherwise, it will be pretty boring to watch Jack walk through the airport and sleep on the flight back from Africa. Jack is back! G-Night is back!

Enjoy the trailers...

Until next time...
