Sorry, it's been a while. Let's get caught up on some of the things that caught my attention since my last post. First, my thoughts are with Sen. Ted Kennedy and his family. I'm glad to hear that it does not appear to be as serious as first reported. Although I do not agree with Sen. Kennedy on some issues, I do respect him and his family for their service to our country. He truly is one of the last "Lions of the Senate". I'm sure that most of you already know about the Kennedys' work to found and build Best Buddies (http://www.bestbuddies.org/site/c.ljJ0J8MNIsE/b.1162355/k.BF9F/Intro.htm), whose mission is to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. It is too bad that yesterday's charity ride to benefit the organization was overshadowed by him taking ill.
Thanks to Pat Shaughnessy for organizing another successful charity golf tournament to benefit Exceptional Citizens Week at Camp Fatima. Even though the weather wasn't the best, there was plenty of distractions with Bobby Orr participating and the refreshments at the par 3s to keep everyone entertained. Jello, Hawaiian Punch, and Lemonade never tasted so good! Let's not forget the fruit and girls at the par 4 4th hole either. I'm officially using these holes as my excuse for sucking so bad, but I'm OK with it. Thanks to Mr. Orr for signing a few pieces as well. I hope that his schedule will allow him to play/participate next year. Hopefully, he will sign another picture of his famous goal. How come whenever I want something, Jim Dawley also wants it? I think it's part of Pat's master plan! ReRe, thanks for the pic!The lover of the mother of the two girls who perished in the April 6th fire on W. 6th St. in Southie was held on $1M bail. Nicole Chuminski, 25, pleaded not guilty to arson and two counts of murder for setting fire to the home of her former girlfriend Anna Reisopoulos. She is due back in court tomorrow (5/19) for a probable cause hearing. This story really pisses me off for a number of reasons. The girls should not have been with their mother. The state had previously ruled that they should live with their grandmother. Where is the outrage for their grandmother and mother for blatantly working the system to get the girls back to their mother? What has the state done to prevent another family from doing the same thing? DSS is fortunate that news cycles quickly move onto other stories, allowing them to fade off and continue to not be held accountable for their mistakes. Where was the father? Oh, sorry. I forgot that he is on the other side of the expressway in the Suffolk County South Bay Correctional facility. Mark my words, unless the state forces Anna Reisopoulos to have a hysterectomy, she will pop out more kids (probably with a different Baby Daddy) that we will pay for with our tax dollars. Some people should not be allowed to pro-create.
Another story that pisses me off is the cyclone that struck Myanmar (Burma) on 5/3 and the military government not allowing foreign aid workers into the country. The military junta ruling the country maintains that the situation is under control and has no plans to ask for aid from neighboring countries, the US, or the UN. In a news story this weekend, I saw that one town of 38,000 reported receiving a food drop from the government that consisted of four...4...FOUR 50 lb. bags of rice! The AP is reporting that the current death toll is 78,000 (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iy-MfhLN9Q7MwtQ1VlrvexLjr2dAD90N4S302). That number could jump to 217,000 if you take into account the missing. Without proper nutrition, medicine, and clean water we could be on the brink of a catastrophic loss of life! The following few statements are why I will never become President of the United States. If I were Commander-In-Chief, I would order the largest airdrops since the Marshall Plan. I don't care about their government! Fuck 'em! In addition to the airdrops, I'd accidentally work in a few bombers to rid the country of the military junta. The people of Myanmar cannot do it themselves, so we need to help them out. The pathetic UN would not like the idea, but what the fuck are they doing to help the situation!
We saw one of worst calls in NBA Playoff history the other night when Paul Pierce was called for an offensive foul against King James late in the fourth quarter. I've tried to get video of the call and post-game press conferences, but can't find any footage. I'm going to call Arlen Specter to see about opening an investigation. From what I can tell, in a post-game interview King James explained that he thought the referee whistled the play dead as a ball out of bounce. When he saw that Pierce was called for the charge, James grinned and said, "That's playoff basketball." He's right. NBA officials are the most incompetent judges of all professional sports! They are worse than East German figure skating judges and soccer referees who call fouls when a player goes down in agony by the wind of an opposing player passing them! I would offer a theory that they may have money on the game, but that has already been proven to be true. Some people may say that because the Celtics are playing at home for Game 7, they will be the beneficiaries of the corrupt NBA officials. I argue that because the King of the NBA plays for Cleveland, we will be looking at one royal screwing of the Green today. Pardon the pun.
Until next time, enjoy this video from YouTube. The video is the subject of a National Geographic special now showing on the National Geographic Channel. If you haven't seen the video, please watch it until the end. It is truly amazing!
